Woad creates thousands of seeds, and is listed as an invasive or noxious weed in many areas, research for your location.
Harvest
Harvest the leaves and seeds for dyeing.
At end of year 1 after lots of sunny days harvest the leaves for indigotin extraction.
Harvest seeds after year two.
Uses
Woad creates a beautiful blue dye.
Woad seeds are great for botanical printing.
Leaves are great for colour extraction. Remember! Woad is not to be confused with Weld! A trick to reminder, Woad is me I’m feeling blue. (Weld creates a yellow dye and has a ‘l’ in it just like yellow. )
